Group strategy

The group consists of members from 3 departments at Rikshospitalet:

• Section of Clinical Immunology and Infectious Diseases
• Department of Cardiology
• Research Institute for Internal Medicine.

We have focused on 3 main topics which reflect our patient population:

• Heart failure
• Heart transplantation
• Atherosclerosis

Well characterized patient populations are of great importance for our research, clinically as well as hemodynamically and with advanced imaging techniques. The patients are studied:

• Cross sectionally
• Longitudinally
• With different treatment interventions

Advanced laboratory and molecular biology techniques have been used to characterize the inflammatory reactions taking place in the patients and to examine what happens during treatment. We have then taken interesting findings and tested hypothesis in cell cultures and animal models in collaborations with other groups in Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim. We have also established international collaborations with groups in Sweden, Netherlands and USA.
