Dilated cardiomyopathy - aetiology, pathogenesis and treatment
Dilated cardiomyopathy is a clinical entity based on morphological criteria. Many seemingly unrelated diseases may cause DCM, but a substantial number of cases cannot be explained by any specific cause and are thus called “idiopathic” dilated cardiomyopathy (IDCM). We believe that DCM is a common end stage in a process where external stressors induce metabolic, inflammatory and structural changes in the myocardium of an individual at risk.
